Presbyopia
Usually after the age of 45, the ability to see clearly at close distances begins to gradually decrease. This change is normal and is called Presbyopia.
The onset of Presbyopia varies from person to person and depends on various factors, for example, nearsighted people develop Presbyopia much later, while farsighted people develop it earlier compared to the normal population.
Treatment
It can be treated in various ways, the simplest and most common being the use of glasses.
However, if there is a refusal to wear glasses, then surgical methods should be applied.

The techniques used today are basically divided into two major categories which are:
The Monovision technique (performed either with laser or intraocular lenses ) and the technique based on the implantation of Multifocal Intraocular Lenses or Extended Depth of Focus Intraocular Lenses inside the eye
(EDOF).
Each technique has its own advantages and disadvantages, as a result of which the candidate needs to undergo a series of special pre-operative examinations, after which the appropriate technique will be decided in collaboration with his ophthalmologist .

Multifocal - EDOF Intraocular Lenses
They are the most appropriate solution for treating Presbyopia, because they provide good vision for both far and near distances, unlike other techniques that allow the dominant eye to see well far away and the non-dominant eye to see well near.
However, there is a small percentage of people who cannot get used to this difference in vision, so they must undergo surgery to insert a multifocal lens.
With the advancement of technology, today, extended depth of focus (EDOF) intraocular lenses are manufactured, which are easily and quickly adapted to after insertion, unlike previous generation intraocular lenses that presented several difficulties in getting used to.

Postoperative problems

The main and most basic problem that multifocal intraocular lenses present is during the night and especially when driving at night, where they see rays and "halos" around light sources, but this subsides over time and is almost eliminated.

In contrast, EDOF intraocular lenses present a much lower rate and intensity of such problems, resulting in them being very well tolerated.
