LASER FOR MYOPIA - HYPERMETROPIA - ASTIGMATISM
PRESBYOPIA CORRECTION WITH MULTIFOCAL INTRAOCULAR LENSES
Laser procedures (PRK - FEMTO LASIK)
Excimer Laser belongs to the invisible Ultraviolet rays with a wave length of 193 μ.
It has been repeatedly proven to have absolutely no carcinogenic effects in human cells.
Ιt sculpts the Cornea and corrects Myopia, Hyperopia and Astigmatism by removing tissue.
In PRK after the completion of surgery, the wound is covered by a special soft contact lens, which is removed upon of wound healing, which usually takes 5 to 7 days.
After the complete wound healing, any activity is permitted and no precautions are required.
During the first 4 days after the surgery, mild photophobia or a foreign body sensation may occur, but these symptoms are affordable.
The only risk is the wound contamination by microrganisms (bacteria, fungi etc) for that reason antibiotic so while it remains open, that is, for the first 4 days, antibiotic drops are required for preventive reasons.
The total surgical time for both eyes does not exceed the 15 minutes.
It is performed under local anesthetic drops and vision restoration is achieved gradually, starting from 5/10 immediately after the operation and reaching 10/10 after 10-15 days.
What does Laser correct?
The therapeutic applications of Laser are not unlimited. They typically correct Myopia up to 10 pts., Hyperopia and Astigmatism up to 6.0 pts. as well as superficial corneal opacities that affect visual acuity ( PTK ).
Finally, they can correct Presbyopia with the monovision technique, but under certain conditions.
For this reason, a thorough preoperative study is required to select the most appropriate treatment regimen, which differs and varies from patient to patient.
